Concert Attendance Policy
All Band students are required to participate in our winter, spring, and “specialty” concerts. For each concert, there may be performances during the school day as well as an evening performance. Concert reminders will be sent to all families prior to your child’s concert.
Concerts are a valuable opportunity for students to learn about performance etiquette, teamwork, focus, and countless other skills. Our concerts provide students the opportunity to show off all their hard work to an audience. Also, as I stress with the students, the Band is a team. If one person is missing from the team, the rest of the team suffers. We don’t want to put extra burden on any of our students to compensate for students who are missing for the performance.
Any student needing to miss a concert for a legitimate reason needs to submit, in writing, this fact at least 2 weeks prior to a concert. This allows us to make the necessary adjustments to account for that student's absence.
When we perform on stage it is important that we both sound and look our best. Remember, the audience will SEE us before they hear anything we will play. For that reason, we all have concert attire so we will look uniform on the stage. Concert dress is very simple and with great chance for being worn for multiple concert seasons.
Black Bottoms and White Tops.
GIRLS: Black dress, long skirt (knee length or longer) or dress pants with an appropriate white top. Flats or mid-heels are preferred.
BOYS: White collared shirt (polo shirts are acceptable). Neckties, sport jackets, and vests are optional.
**Black shoes (all black sneakers are acceptable) and black socks (or stockings/leggings) are preferable for evening concerts. Remember, we want to look our best when we are sitting in front of an audience.
The following are not appropriate for concert dress:
Jeans, t-shirts, spaghetti straps, short skirts, white socks, bright sneakers, large designs, shorts, and garments in untidy condition.
